Amplify Your Love - Valentines Day Gift

This was a Valentines day gift I made my boyfriend (now fiance) a few years ago. I used a simple canvas from Michael's craft store and added a few very interesting mixed media/materials details that really made the piece pop.

Steps:
1) The red heart in the middle was the bottom portion of the candy box I was given. You always keep the candy boxes but never use them, well here is that pesky box you love put to good use. I tilted the heart the left (can't really see in this pic) to give the whole piece a vintage A-symmetrical feel.

2) Next I took a ruler and drew some (very light) pencil lines to follow when writing the text. Most of these lines I left, as they were so faint, you could barely see them. This was another part that added to the vintage feel. The text is a Jason Mraz song that is "our song". I simply wrote the chorus over the entire piece (with a black sharpie), following along the pencil lines I drew prior.

-> side note->My guy is a music guy so I incorporated this into the piece. I chose to draw an amp and the wire coming from the amp, but I just as easily could have had a guitar or just included musical notes around the heart. I chose the colors as I thought they complimented one another and stuck with the vintage feel.

3) I then drew the amp and "plugged" it into the heart, as if to say our love was amplified. A really unique gift to give that still hangs in our living room to this day!

This can be easily replicated to fit any guy with any number of interests. Additionally I know it made my guy feel really special using his favorite hobby- music.
